GUIDED TOUR
The tour begins in the Gallery, where a retrospective exhibition celebrates Mats Jonasson’s 50 years as a designer. Here, we share the dramatic story of the glassworks — a story that once made headlines in the evening press. It’s the classic tale of David and Goliath, where the glassworks, led by Mats Jonasson, fought against the odds and prevailed. A unique fighting spirit and deep-rooted local patriotism still permeate both the glassworks and the village of Målerås.
The tour continues into the Exhibition Hall, where visitors can admire the spectacular glass art of Mats Jonasson. From there, we move upstairs to the hotshop. As the glassblower gathers the molten glass and swings the pipe through the air to shape it, we explain the intricate process of how our crystal pieces are made — from the original plaster model to the finished sculpture. Cast crystal is a Målerås specialty. Each sculpture is refined by our skilled artisans through sandblasting, painting, grinding, and engraving — every step done by hand, every detail carefully crafted.
